29 Ways to Love Others This Month
Yesterday I encouraged you to love others differently this month by showing love to those you wouldn’t ordinarily reach out to. While I was at it, I thought I’d give you some ideas. I hope you’ll share your own ideas in the comments below. Don’t forget to share your random acts of kindness on social media using #29daysoflove!
- Pay for the order of the person behind you in line.
- Hold the door for someone else.
- Smile at a stranger.
- Shovel someone else’s sidewalk–without reward (or mow their lawn…or rake their leaves).
- Create a work of art for someone else.
- Send a “thinking of you card” to someone for no particular reason.
- Babysit for a single mom (or dad!) for free.
- Pull over to the side of the road to help that person with the flat tire (or other mechanical failure).
- Provide assistance to someone with diminished mental capacity (i.e. calling for help if they are lost–I and my husband have both had to do this–or helping to find their way to someone or something)
- Provide a ride to someone who can’t drive or who doesn’t have a car.
- Pick up groceries for someone who can’t leave their house.
- Visit someone who is stuck at home or who lives in a nursing home.
- Give directions to somebody who is lost.
- Provide a service without charge to someone who ordinarily wouldn’t be able to afford it (photography, cleaning, etc.).
- Clean out your closet and donate the clothing to someone who needs it or to a local clothing bank.
- Teach someone a new skill.
- Say something nice about someone.
- Clean up trash when you see it.
- Say thank you to a public service worker.
- Eat lunch with someone you don’t know.
- Leave a generous tip.
- Buy a flower, and give it to a stranger.
- Let someone else have your seat.
- Let someone else go first.
- Talk to a homeless person.
- Donate blood.
- Leave extra cash where someone will find it (in a library book, in a wallet at the store).
- Bring in your neighbor’s trash cans.
- Make a meal for someone.
There are so many other ways that you can show love to others throughout the month. Use your imagination! If you would like more ideas, click on one of the following resources for extensive lists of ways to show random acts of kindness:
