The #1 Reason You’re Not Succeeding at Your Goals

The #1 Reason You're Not Succeeding at Your Goals | Making the Most Blog

I seem to be a quitter.

At not quite thirty years old, I’ve been reflecting on my years since high school and realizing that I’ve started a lot of things, but I’ve yet to become what I’d call successful in business or in my financial life. And as I’ve come to this realization, I’ve also had to recognize that part of the reason I am not yet successful is because I’ve quit so many things.

When things don’t explode with popularity as fast as I want them to or if my bank account doesn’t grow as fast as I want it to or if it just seems too hard or if the people are too mean…I move on to something else. Something shiny and sparkly and super and when that gets old and dull or maybe even scary then I quit that thing too.

Right now I’m on the edge of a new stage of life. The last decade has been full of ups and downs, small successes, and major failures.

I want to make the next decade successful. But we are in a tough spot right now, and I’ve got to turn things around now if I’m going to start out the next decade on a positive note. I don’t have much time.

So while I’ve been evaluating the last ten years and looking forward to ten more, I have also been watching friends and family and those in successful positions to find out: what is the answer to real success? What is it about the things I’ve done and the goals I’ve set and the ventures I’ve entered into that doesn’t quite give me enough momentum to get over the first hurdle?

After carefully considering all of the options, I’ve come to the conclusion that the #1 thing holding people back from being successful is not necessarily bad goal setting or not enough money, though those things can definitely affect your trajectory.

If inadequate funds are standing in the way of you and achieving your goals, then there are a few ways of going about acquiring loans to combat this. A popular option is to take out Qik Car Title Loans which tap into the money already tied up in your vehicle and could ultimately help you get you where you want to be, financially speaking.

In reality, the #1 thing holding you back from being successful is a lack of passion for your goal.

Take, for instance, my experiment with selling Thirty-One. I love Thirty-One products, I love spending time with other women, and I love everything that Thirty-One stands for. But at the end of the day, I don’t have enough passion to talk to every single person I meet into hosting a party, selling the product, or even buying a product.

On the other hand, my best friend sells It Works! products. There is a huge disconnect between my passion for Thirty-One bags and her passion for her products. She has made a killer income on her business, but I also know she talks to everyone she meets about the products she sells regardless of what anybody else thinks of her. Direct sales can be a fabulous avenue for making a full-time income from home but if you don’t have the passion for it, you’re not going to invest the money, you’re not going to find enough people to sell, and you’re not going to find enough people to buy.

It’s possible that you also believe you don’t have the funding or the connections to contribute to your success or that you’ve been put in a bad place in life that you just can’t get out of. Lack of passion allows negative thinking to creep in, sabotaging your efforts. Don’t let negative thinking keep you in the hole you’ve found yourself in.

There are countless stories of kids who grew up in poor neighborhoods without access to a decent education or even the means to eat. The difference between poverty and success is living with a passionate mindset that continues to urge you never to quit. Many people have made an amazing life for themselves out of nothing because they never gave up. They found the funding. They looked for opportunities and then snatched them. They filled out the forms, wrote the essays, performed the experiments, and eventually they got the grant, earned the scholarship, and created a successful product.

Without passion for your goal, you will never get around to doing the things that lead you to your goal. Without the first step and without the initial determination and continual persistence that tells you not to give up, you will never:

  • Write down your goal
  • Make smart goals
  • Break down your goal into sizeable, manageable chunks
  • Take the class
  • Talk to people about your business
  • Grow a following
  • Make money
  • Touch lives
  • Make a difference
  • Be successful

Whether becoming successful means a job at the top of the corporate ladder, raising good children, keeping the house clean, or making a living from home, you won’t find that success unless you find the passion first.

Don’t let negative thinking and a lack of passion keep you from living the amazing life you were meant to lead. Find out what your true passion is and pursue it with all you’ve got. Only then will you begin to achieve your goals.
