Bullet-Proof Heart

Depending on which version of the Bible you read, you’ll find that Ephesians 6:14 describes the armor as “the breastplate of righteousness,” or “the body armor of God’s righteousness.”  When consulting with my husband on these two terms, he informed me that, when Ephesians was being written, body armor and the breastplate were the same thing.  Thus, we’ll treat them as such. Strong’s Concise Concordance describes the breastplate as having two parts that protect the torso (from the neck to the middle of the body) front and back.  This piece of armor, generally made of leather, bronze, or iron, protected…

Why I Admire Homeschool Moms

Last week I talked a little bit about the disagreement between moms about which is better: working or staying at home. Likewise, there is also disagreement about whether to homeschool children or send them to either public or private school for their education. It can be a really tough decision choosing between the public and private schools in houston, let alone bringing homeschooling into the mix! There is just so much to think about. Choosing the type of school is just the beginning, as then as a parent you need to pay close attention to the secondary school league tables,…

The Best Shoes

In Ephesians 6:15, Paul tells us: For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In order for us to really understand this verse, I think we need to dissect it first.  Let’s start from the beginning. Why shoes? According to Merriam-Webster, a shoe is “an outer covering for the human foot,” or “a metal plate or rim for the hoof of an animal.”  In other words, it is protection for feet.  Our feet are sensitive, and sticks, stones, and other debris (like Legos!) can cause us serious pain when…

Why I Admire Working Moms

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel I've been a mom long enough to say that there is a small rift between mothers. The working kind. The kind that says, "You're a stay at home mom, so you don't do anything all day," or the kind that says, "You willingly leave your children all day to go to work." I know this rift isn't there for all women, but I know that it's there in some places. That's why I'm here to say today that, as a stay-at-home mom, I admire you. The working moms. Here's why: Sometimes you…

Where’s Your Helmet?

These days it seems you have to have a helmet for everything: hitting a baseball, bicycling, driving a motorcycle, working on a construction site, playing football, fighting a fire...you get the point. Not only this, quite often safety head lamps are needed too, especially when working on construction sites or for cycling in the dark. Being able to see what you're doing limits the amount of injury you can do to yourself... I would hope anyway. It's because of past mistakes and the latest up-to-date safety precautions that we are required to (or at least strongly requested to) wear helmets…
