Choosing Just to Be
Ordinarily, I would have lost my patience.
But today was a good day. So instead we snuggled. And we talked. And we just…were.
I read a post recently about just lying with your children. Letting things go just to be. You can find the full post here at Your Modern Family.
I remembered that tonight as I snuggled with my babies. Sure, there’s still laundry to be done and folded, dishes to be washed, and coats and shoes on the floor.
But that can wait until tomorrow.
Because today I want to be the good parent my kids think I am just by being with them.Today I was all determined to accomplish a host of things. And I did. I spent way more time that I had planned on working on the blog page, worked out, and even enjoyed a walk to the school to pick up Princess Anna from school.
Everything went as planned, really, until bedtime.
When my niece came up with this fantastic idea for a tea party that we can’t attend, which led Princess Anna into a meltdown, because they my sister and niece are leaving on Wednesday and we won’t see them again for a year.
And somewhere along the way, I had to go and mention that Prince Charming and I have counseling and parenting classes tomorrow. That just set off Princess Anna and Rapunzel in an entirely different direction of how we’re already good parents and if we should love who we are then why should we change…insightful things, really, yet the understanding of bettering yourself as a person still isn’t quite there.
Ordinarily, I would have lost my patience.
