Scripture Sunday: Psalm 51:12
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.”
-Psalm 51:12
I love this verse, not just because the first part is part of a song, but because of the second half of the verse, “Make me willing to obey you.” Some of you might think that this is just allowing God to control us, but it’s not. I can tell you that, in my life, I pray often for God to make me want to do what’s right. It’s not easy to do what’s right, because sometimes sin looks so much more appealing and we really don’t want to do what’s right. But when we still want to please God and can’t get out of our sin, I think we need to pray, “Make me willing to obey you.” Right there, you are showing your willingness to give it up to God, but at the same time you are acknowledging that you can’t do it on your own. And I think the most important thing about our repeated sin is acknowledging that it’s there and that it’s wrong and that we know we need to give it up.
So even if you continue to fall in the same place over and over again, try asking God this week, “Make me willing to obey you.” The joy of salvation will quickly follow when He molds your heart and mind to the place you’ve asked Him to take you.
In the comments, please share what God has spoken to you this week. I’d also love to hear how God is changing your heart to do what’s right.
