One Word 3.0

In the past few years, I've become a big fan of choosing one word to focus on as the theme to my life throughout the year.  While some choose only one word and scrap the resolutions, I am a supporter of both.  I think you can set goals for the year while choosing to live by one main word.  One focus.  One theme. There are lots of words to choose from. My first year, I was intentional. My second year (2015), my word was faith. There are unlimited choices.  (If you want to choose one for yourself, check out the OneWord365 page…

Scripture Sunday: Psalm 18

A few weeks ago, I opened my Bible to Psalm 18.  As I read through it, I felt God speaking to me in different areas, and I hope He will speak to you in that way too.  Remember this week, as you begin a new year, that God is your rock, your fortress, your savior, your protector.  Remember the promises He has made.  He never breaks His promises. I love you, lord; you are my strength. The lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the…

On Rejection

I wasn't actually sure I was going to tell you this today, because let's face it: who really wants to tell the entire world about her failures? But as I thought about it some more, I felt like I couldn't possibly withhold my failure from you, because then I would only be withholding from you a commonality, a shared struggle, some encouragement, maybe even some hope when you feel rejected. Because that's how I'm feeling today: rejected. Because that's what I've been today.  Rejected. I discovered that my book was not chosen as a finalist in a writing contest I was confident I…

Celebrate Love

As we celebrate Advent and anticipate the coming of Jesus, our Savior, we celebrate love and what God's love has done for us.  This week, I felt that this verse best sums up the reason for Jesus' birth and death and fully represents the love that God has for us: a love so strong that He would send His Son to die as the sacrifice for our sins. "There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." -John 15:13 Think about His love for you this week, accept it, and as you do so, love others…

The Power of Prayer {and a giveaway!}

I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. I'm terrible at sitting down and praying for long periods of time...but I believe in the power that prayer has. I also believe in praying throughout the day: long prayers, short prayers, simple prayers, complicated prayers. Praying God's Word. Praying from the heart. Standing, prostrate, eyes open, eyes closed, head up, head bowed, or otherwise. Did you know you can even have a prayer request delivered to other parts of the world. Isn't that incredible? I love books on prayer and the power of prayer. I love movies about the…
