How to Improve Your Lifestyle One Day at a Time

How to Improve Your Lifestyle One Day at a Time | Making the Most Blog

Happy September! I can’t believe we’re so far into the year. School has started, and before you know it we’ll be into next year wondering where the end of 2016 went.

I don’t know what it is about September–maybe the fact that a new school year feels like a fresh start–or the fact that the end of the year is quickly approaching and we’ve so much to catch up on…but it feels like a good month to get back into the swing of things.

And not just for me. But for you too. Because September is Self-Improvement Month.

Because it’s self-improvement month and now that we’ve begun the last quarter of the year, you may want to take a look at those new year’s resolutions you made SO long ago and evaluate your progress. Or perhaps today is the day you decided that you want to turn your life around, and you want to know where to start.

Changing your lifestyle can seem daunting at first. Maybe you’re like me and have [TOO MANY] pounds to lose. Maybe you want to quit smoking. Although it will take time, it will be achievable. If you have managed to achieve your goal of quitting, maybe through the method of vaping, then why not check out a product like the smok alien 220w mod to add to your vaping accessory collection.

Comparatively, if buying everything there is to start vaping is the motivation you need to quit, then go ahead. You can get everything you need on sites like sessionvapor.com. Just go with it if you think it will benefit you in any way.

A friend of mine is currently on a mission to give up smoking for good and made the switch to vaping a couple of weeks ago. Apparently, trying all the different flavors of E-Liquid has been a lot of fun. I imagine it must take some getting used to, but there is no denying that vaping seems to be a much healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes.

But what about other lifestyle changes? Maybe you want to spend more time with your family or get fit. Whatever it is you want to change in your lifestyle, right now it probably seems huge and out of reach–maybe even scary, but the trick is to remember to just put in one day at a time. If even one day sounds like too much, put in one hour at a time. You may need even to work at whatever it is moment by moment.

My dad always used to ask me, “How do you eat an elephant?”

After I while I learned that the answer is, “One bite a time.”

The truth is that no matter how big and scary and daunting your task might be, if you want to change your lifestyle you need to take it one piece at a time.

If you want to quit drinking soda, try to get through one day without drinking it. After you’ve mastered one day, perhaps you can take a one-day break. Then go without soda for two days. Then take another one-day break. Then do without soda for three days. Then four. Then five. Then before you know it you’ve kicked that habit.

If you want to move home, it’s going to take time. Regardless of whether your friend has just moved into a new Castle Rock home, you need to plan your move and take your time to ensure the move is right for you and your family.

If you want to drink more water, try the opposite. If you’re starting from nothing, drink 1 cup of water the first day. Try this for about a week. Then up it to two cups. Then continue increasing the amount of water you drink daily until you reach your goal.

Now losing weight is a very big thing to accomplish in and of itself, so what I try to do is make one change at a time. First, maybe you’ll start drinking more water. Then cut out the soda. Then start exercising a certain number of days per week. Then cut back on your sweets. Give yourself steps to accomplish so that you are frequently drawing closer to your goal but also winning at the same time.

You can use these processes for almost any goal you want to accomplish. Putting together many small steps makes for big success. So whatever you want to transform in your life right now, I want you to take a pen and paper (or jot it down on the Memo app on your phone or tablet) and write down the steps you will take toward making that lifestyle change. Then today, start.

What lifestyle change do you want to make this month? I’d love for you to share in the comments below!
