Work in Progress Wednesday: My New Office

Work-in-Progress Wednesday: Financial Management Binder | Making the Most Blog

Welcome to Work in Progress Wednesday! I’m finding myself now with a lot of time on my hands since I have begun to train my replacement at work. My hours have been cut back from 20 to 10 weekly, so now my afternoons are open to do…well…whatever.

Anyone who knows me though knows I have a hard time sitting around doing nothing, so I’ve been hard at work on the blog, taking care of the housework, and trying to spend more intentional time with the kids.

This week, I’m excited to share with you my new work in progress! Since my replacement at work is now in the office more than I am, I sadly removed all of my personal items from my office. I hated to put them away, and as I was thinking about it, I decided to make my own office at home! Over the past several months, I have been using the couch as my personal office, and I find I take up a lot of space there. Not only that, but working there isn’t necessarily distraction-free. I was actually thinking of looking into how I could rent an office to avoid distractions completely and found many good options but decided that I will look in the future when I’ve had more time to perfect what I’m doing.

Sometimes I think about what my own office would look like. One not located in my house, but a proper office. It’s quite exciting thinking about what it could be. A friend of mine knows someone who had their office broken into and had to look into commercial door repair. Companies like these specifically repair and install doors for businesses.

Since my sewing machine is broken, making my sewing table essentially useless, I’ve decided to make that portion of the craft/laundry room into my office. (Nothing like a multi-purpose room!)

Here’s what I walked into. Check out this awful mess!

Okay, I guess it could be worse. And the fact that it’s in the basement doesn’t really help. But it definitely needed some work. I spent several hours at the end of last week working on this new project. It took a large trash bag, and a good bit of rearranging of some craft items before I had some semblance of an office. Here’s what it looks like now:

I still have some plans for my new office (which is why it’s filed under Work in Progress Wednesday!). I’d like to paint the cabinets (which were actually cabinets from a friend’s house–we took them off her hands when she remodeled her kitchen). I also am planning on purchasing a desk lamp (better lighting!) and a bulletin board for the rest of my pictures (I like looking at pretty things while I work!). I’m also hoping to purchase a curtain rod and some new curtains to hide the mess on the shelving unit. Not sure what I want to do with the table yet. I was hoping to pick up a desk, but I might just try to paint it as well to save on cost. Maybe I will Try Green Facilities so I can get a hand with my office and see if they can tidy it up a bit more. Hopefully I’ll have some new pictures to show you next week!

What are you working on this week?
